WATCH: P61-M Worth Of Smuggled Luxury Cars Destroyed Under The Order Of President Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday led the condemnation of several smuggled luxury cars during the 116th founding anniversary of Bureau of Customs (BoC).

About 20 high-end vehicles worth at least P61.6 million were destroyed by a bulldozer at the port of Manila. Meanwhile, in Cebu and Davao ports, 10 other smuggled vehicles were also destroyed simultaneously.

Among the cars destroyed in Manila includes the following brands and models like BMW, Lexus ES300, Mercedes Benz Jaguar, Audi, and Corvette.

This condemnation of luxury cars is a way of the president to teach the wealthy car enthusiasts who do not pay the right import duties a lesson.


In the comments section of the video, some netizens expressed their thought on why these cars were not auctioned and the money earned be used for schools for the poor or something.

However, some people pointed out, that if they took that up for auction, then the ones that are going to buy them from the government, may be the smugglers themselves.

In a separate instance, BoC Commissioner Isidro Lapena said that his agency will destroy all the smuggled cars instead of putting them up for auction.
