VIRAL: Cardinal Tagle Kisses Controversial Comelec Chair Andy Bautista’s Foot

Amidst the controversy regarding the ill-gotten wealth scandal that the Bautistas are currently neck-deep in, a photo has surfaced which apparently struck a nerve and immediately garnered a massive amount of angry reactions from netizens all over the country.

A Facebook page posted the picture of Cardinal Tagle kissing Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista’s foot. It sported the caption:

“THE FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE ASKING What is he trying to prove by requesting Cardinal Tagle to kiss his feet?”

The said picture, which was later on revealed to have been from the GMA Network website’s gallery, is supposed to have been taken during the Maundy Thursday Mass at the Manila Cathedral.

As of this writing, The Facebook page that first put up the photo has allegedly been taken down, but not before it went viral.

The news is especially relevant as news broke out regarding how Andres Bautista tearfully addressed his supporters during the Comelec flag ceremony yesterday, and related to them that he had also already sought the help of Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle as well.

While some netizens have asked whether the photo is edited, other have also claimed that people just did not know the context and that this scene was part of a Roman Catholic ceremony called the reenactment of the washing/kissing of the 12 Apostles’ feet.

Although the Pro-Duterte Facebook page Lapu-lapu is indeed not available anymore (apparently suspended or deleted), the post which spread like wildfire has already also reached a lot of other Facebook news pages and now continues to gather reactions and comments by the minute.

There was also another picture from the same ceremony where Tagle can be seen washing Bautista’s feet.

Both the Archbishop and Bautista are currently receiving heavy flak for the implications of the said photos in relation to the recent issue involving The Comelec chairman and his alleged ill-gotten wealth.
