We, Filipinos are gems wherever you take us. May it be in other countries, in different fields, like singing, dancing, sports and even in academics.

Such is the story of this young woman who is giving pride to the Philippines now.

Hillary Andales, 18, from Palo, Leyte won the third annual Breakthrough Junior Challenge. This is after making it to the finals for the second year in a row because of her video on reference frames in general activity.

Andales will receive $250,000 in educational prizes for winning against more than 11,000 students from 178 different countries who were registered for the contest. There were 3,200 video submissions in the contest.

The teacher of Andales will also be receiving a prize amounting to $50,000 and her school will get a new science laboratory that is worth $100,000 from the Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Andales won the popular vote in 2016 and 2017, this paved way for her and to the Philippine Science High School - Eastern Visayas to make it to the finals.

She has been the Division Finals Champion every year for the last decade in the Metrobank-DepEd Math Challenge.

Aside from that Andales also led the Regional Council of the Philippines Society of Youth Science Clubs, her school paper The Science Net, she also served as a delegate at the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science, and she authored a mathematics review book for Grade 5 and 6 students.
