READ: Piñol hurt and bothered by Lagman's claim that Duterte didn't do any good

Here's another Duterte critic right here. Albay Representative Congressman Edcel Lagman fearlessly claimed that President Duterte did nothing good during his first year in office.

DA Secretary Manny Piñol however, found this statement of Lagman absurd and a hypocrisy. This is the focus of his Facebook page when he talked about Lagman’s claims.

“I was deeply bothered and hurt by the statement issued by Albay Congressman Edcel Lagman, in assessing the first year performance of the Duterte Administration, that President Duterte has done nothing good for the country.”

Piñol reiterated that he did not want to quarrel with anybody, but he was triggered by the awful remarks of Lagman and had to say something because Lagman did not only affront Duterte, but also all the efforts Piñol and his department worked hard for.

“I do not like to pick a quarrel with anybody. I just wanted to do my job silently, without much fanfare. But the statement of Cong. Lagman was not only an affront on the President but also a total and cruel disregard of the efforts of the Department of Agriculture to help his constituents.”

Despite these, Piñol tried to understand the situation but still remained with his stand that it was out of bounds for Lagman to say that the President “has done nothing good for the country.”

“I understand politics since I was once a politician like Cong. Lagman. I also understand that he belongs to the political opposition and that, maybe, he is just standing up to his role. But claiming that the president has done nothing good for the country is totally out of bounds.”

Rome, Italy - On Day 1 of my assumption to office as Secretary of Agriculture on June 30, I advised my staff that we all should distance ourselves from politics and that we should do our jobs as instructed by President Rody Duterte.
Even the Facebook posts of my staff which made comments on issues involving Senator Leila de Lima, Senator Antonio Trillanes, Vice President Leni Robredo and other political opposition figures and critics of the President were taken down on my instructions.
I was instructed by President Duterte to deal with local political leaders regardless of their political loyalties and even if they did not support him in the last elections.
It was an order that I followed.
In fact, the first two areas which I visited through the Biyaheng Bukid sorties right after my assumption were Oriental Mindoro on July 7 and Bicol on July 13.
While here in Rome to sit as Chairperson of the 40th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, however, I was deeply bothered and hurt by the statement issued by Albay Congressman Edcel Lagman, in assessing the first year performance of the Duterte Administration, that President Duterte has done nothing good for the country.

But the statement of Cong. Lagman was not only an affront on the President but also a total and cruel disregard of the efforts of the Department of Agriculture to help his constituents.
Cong. Lagman was one of the political personalities of Bicol who attended the Biyaheng Bukid sortie in Pili, Camarines Sur on July 13, 2016 and I have pictures to prove it.
I remember that date distinctly because right after the Cabinet meeting on July 12, I took an overnight land trip to Camarines Sur sleeping in the car for the Biyaheng Bukid in Bicol.
Cong. Lagman was there when the DA distributed equipment and other farm items for the farmers and fisher folks of the Bicol Region including his province Albay.
It was in that meeting where he requested for fiberglass fishing boats from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) which I immediately approved.
The first 50 units of paddle boats were delivered immediately but when he informed me later that what he wanted to have was the motorised fishing boat, I again instructed the BFAR to deliver the boats to him.
We have pictures to prove this.
I understand politics since I was once a politician like Cong. Lagman.
I also understand that he belongs to the political opposition and that, maybe, he is just standing up to his role.
But claiming that President Duterte has done nothing good for the country is totally out of bounds.
This statement may not really affect the President but it hurts me and the people in the Department who have worked hard to deliver what we have committed to the people of Albay and the Bicol Region.
The workers who fabricated the fiberglass fishing boats worked overtime just to be able to show to Cong. Lagman that the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries under President Duterte is responsive to the needs of the people.
"Masyado namang masakit para sa aking mga kasama sa Departamento Cong. Edcel na sabihin nyo na walang ginawang mabuti si Pangulong Duterte para sa bayan."
"Hindi lang po si Pangulong Duterte ang ininsulto ninyo. Inalipusta nyo pati ang mga manggawa ng Kagawaran na nagpakahirap upang pagsilbihan kayo."
I understand politics but the statement of Cong. Lagman that the President has done nothing for the country is below the belt.
