Grace Poe Praises TP Nieto : "You Do Excellent Research And That's The Truth"

A hearing for the investigation of fake news was held last October 4, 2017. In the hearing, Thinking Pinoy RJ Nieto was invited and questioned.

When he was questioned by Senators Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and Senator Risa Hontiveros, he defended his blog and said that the posts in his Facebook page are his personal opinion.

“When I broadcast stuff on my Facebook page, that is Rey Joseph Nieto speaking as a regular citizen. But when I give advice to the OWWA, the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs, that’s where my job kicks in,”

He also said that he should be told to be nicer to people just because he works for the DFA.

“The question whether I should be nicer to people on my personal blog, I do not think so,”

Nieto said when he was questioned by Hontiveros that when he publishes his personal opinion and it gains a lot of traction, “that means a lot of other Filipinos think the same way I do or maybe agree to what I try to say.”

After these, Senator Grace Poe praised Nieto saying that the senate might not agree with him but he does excellent research.

“We may or may not agree with you…But actually here in the Senate, we should be checking those sites so that we know how people think, not necessarily that we will agree, but if there’s anything, you do excellent research and that’s the truth,”

He also praised Nieto and told him he can work as an independent consultant.

“You do excellent research, sometimes against us, sometimes for us. I hope you can keep the neutrality like if you’re in a board, you can be an independent director. You can be in government, but an independent consultant,”

Poe recalled that during the elections, a claim published by a blog called Open Source Invetigations said that she owns an “American home was a luxury and exclusive residence.”

She commended Nieto for doing research and correcting the claim even if he was a supporter of Duterte.

“You corrected it with research and fact, and you were a supporter of President Duterte. But you came out with proper research saying that what they were claiming is untrue,”

The netizens loved how Nieto was able to brilliantly stand for his opinion.
