Judy
Taguiwalo lost the DSWD Secretary position for good as majority members of the
Commission on Appointments voted to reject her ad interim appointment.
Taguiwalo
later on said that she was not surprised by the decision.
“Hindi naman ako nagugulat…. I have served the people well and I gave my all, and I’m proud to say that my integrity is intact.”
Judy Taguiwalo, originally from
Bacolod and formerly a political detainee, had been appointed by President
Rodrigo R. Duterte to replace former DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman and served
from June 30 2016 until her disappointing CA rejection August 16th of this
year.
“What
else do they want from me? I never stole money. In terms of service delivery,
we tried our best to provide immediately… What I did was I stood by the
decision of the Supreme Court that there should be no pork barrel,” Taguiwalo
said in a Press conference after the Commission on Appointments voted to reject
her.
Netizens
who were familiar with the pro-poor and pro-Filipino works of the former
secretary expressed their dismay at the results of the deliberations.
In
a post
in Taguiwalo’s official Facebook page 10 hours ago as of this writing, her
supporters gushed in and voiced out their opinions.
Even
representatives from partylist groups expressed their shock and displeasure at
the outcome of the confirmation.
Representative
Sarah Elago, for example, said that Taguiwalo’s removal will signify the return
of the DSWD’s nature to fuel the neoliberal framework, through dole-outs and
programs funded from foreign aid and debt.
“The
rejection of Ma’am Judy is a blatant proof that pro-reform officials will not
be tolerated by institutions of traditional politics, hence, is causal of
poverty and misery to the people,” said Anakpawis representative Ariel Casilao.
Even
Bayan Muna partylist representative Carlos Zarate said that whoever is chosen
to replace Taguiwalo has some pretty big shoes to fill.
“Malaki
ang dapat punuan ng ipapalit kay Sec. Judy sa DSWD dahil sa pinakita niyang
husay at integridad sa opisina. It seems
that she is too good and too straight for the CA,” the representative said.
