Purisima charged for amassing P29.2M worth of wealth

Another man of power is now in the limelight for corruption. The man in question now, is former Philippines National Police chief Alan Purisima along with his family, for allegedly corrupting and keeping in secret an ill-begotten wealth worth P29.2 million.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales already ordered the filing of a petition to initiate forfeiture proceedings against the ex-chief.

Morales charged Purisima in a consolidated resolution dated last July 4, 2014, among the charged were Purisima's wife, Ma. Romana Lydia and his sons, Rainier Van Albret, Eumir Von Andrei, Alam Jr. and Jason Arvi for the violation of Republic Act No. 1379.

Another order filed against Purisima is nine counts of perjury for willfully and deliberately failing to disclose all of his properties in his SALN or statement of assets and liabilities from 2006-2014.

He was ordered dismissed from the police service as he was found guilty of Grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, and acquisition of unexplained wealth.

For his 14 years in service, his records only show that his salaries, allowances and other benefits are just P9.6 million.

On the other hand, his wife worked as an employee of the AFP Mutual Benefits Association, Inc. for the same number of years and got a total of P6.4 million only. Their combined income is P16 million.

Furthemore, according to the Ombudsman investigators, Purisima already had a net worth  of P16.8 million in 2014.
