When SEC released an issuance that the registration of Rappler will be revoked, the Liberal Party and the other politicians and people in their midst cried out against President Rodrigo Duterte.

They were screaming how what happened to Rappler is a blatant attack on press freedom. They didn't even try to understand that the revocation of Rappler's registration was because of its violation of the constituion, something more serious than "just wanting to stop the mouths of the media" as what they are implying.

However, these Yellow People might have forgotten what happened during the administration of Cory Aquino, which Thinking Pinoy gladly reminded them of.

In 1987, Cory Aquino sued Philippine Star columnist Luis Beltran for defamation. According to the reports, Beltran wrote that Cory hid under her bed during a coup d'etat.

Of course anybody in their right mind should not be taking that literally, but it seemed that the then sitting President Cory Aquino wouldn't let her ego be touched.

She sued Beltran and even sat on the witness stand even if she was the current president of the country then.

The court ruled in favor of her (naturally), and sentenced Beltran and Star Editor Max Soliven to 2 years in prison in 1992. They were also ordered to pay 2 million for damage.

Now, back to the current topic. Rappler's registration was revoked because they were being funded by foreign entities. While were at it, let me just add that these foreign entities are the same ones who brought down Ukraine.

According to our Constitution, media publishers here in the Philippines should only be owned by Filipinos, so naturally, Rappler's foreign financer didn't make the cut.

That is the reason why Rappler was striked down.

In the end, if there was a government who blatantly attacked press freedom, it is the Aquino administration and not Duterte.
"If there's a government that really directly attacked press freedom, it's the Government of Cory Aquino, the Government of the person that the Yellow Bleeding Hearts adore."
