Deputy Ombudsman Says He Was Just Reading "AMLC Documents" Shown To Him By Reporters

After the Ombudsman declared that they are approving the probe on the supposed hidden wealth of the President Rodrigo Duterte because they have found sufficient evidence after Senator Antonio Trillanes file charges, the Ombudsman, through Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang said that they already have the bank transaction documents from AMLC.

Several news sites quoted Carandang when he said that they already have the documents of the president's bank transactions, as well as his common law wife, and his daughter Kitty.

Some news sites even said that the bank records were full of transactions from presidential sons Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and Sebastian "Baste" Duterte.

All the reports claim that the records show that the bank accounts have transactions amounting to billions of pesos that Duterte is hiding.

But this Monday, the AMLC denied that they gave the Ombudsman those documents. People were calling for Carandang to be removed from his seat and charged criminally.

Monday evening, Carandang's side was aired by a two-paragraph statement in his behalf. According to the statement, Carandang was just reading through the supposed "AMLC Documents" shown to him by the media during an ambush interview.

“Carandang states that he was reading through the documents shown to him during the ambush interview, in response to media’s inquiry on the status of the complaint after more than a year since its filing, and in stating that a request was made to AMLC as part of the required investigation process.”

After his statement sparked angry exchanges among the parties concerned, with Duterte even daring Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales to resign, the statement from the Ombudsman insisted that they have observed confidentiality.

“It has observed confidentiality in the Ombudsman’s investigation on the complaint against then mayor Rodrigo Duterte, which complaint was filed, in fact, even before the 2016 elections.”
