Hundreds of people eagerly
awaited the arrival of President Rodrigo Duterte in front of the city hall in
Ozamis City earlier today.
They were not disappointed.
The president, together with
Philippine National Police Chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, made good on his
promise to visit the recently controversial city and completed his itinerary
which consisted of talking to the troops and awarding of 7 medals to outstanding
members of the police force who joined in the biggest anti-drug raid in the
history of Ozamiz City which resulted in the deaths of alleged narcopoliticians
Mayor Aldong Parojinog Sr. and his brother, Board Member Octavio Parojinog.
In his speech during the awarding
ceremony, Duterte advised the troop not ti be involved in drugs as it will
destroy the society.
Lastly, President Duterte
inspected and received the confiscated and surrendered firearms as a result of
the recent crackdown on drugs in the city.
Hundreds of firearms were
surrendered to the president, several of which belonged to barangay captains of
Ozamiz City.
Led by Senior Inspector Jovie
Espenido, who was recently rated as the most requested chief of police across
the country, the anti-illegal drug raid also resulted to the arrest of several
Ozamiz City public officials including Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog who
is currently detained in Manila.
Police Chief Inspector Espenido
received a special award from President Duterte and PNP Chief Bato last week
because of his huge contribution to the war against illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, here are the comments
of the Ozamisnons on the official Ozamis City Facebook Page. Most of the
Ozamisnon netizens are visibly excited by the president’s arrival and some are
hopeful that this will finally herald a change in Ozamiz City.
Rick Cruz: Free Ozamis! I hope we can finally achieve true progress
in Ozamiz!
April Erquita: Welcome to our City Tatay! We all pray for our city
to be peaceful.
Most of the other comments
expressed concern for the president, mentioning that there may still be
Parojinog supporters who might try to do him harm.
