Atty. Bruce Lectures Pia Ranada About The True Meaning Of Press Freedom

When Rappler's registration got revoked by the SEC. Rappler and their people behind it, and even people who are just siding with them are all crying out about it being a blatant attack on press freedom.

For Pia Ranada, a Rappler journalist, what happened was an attack on their freedom of speech. She even went too far to post this photo below:

Because of this post, Atty. Bruce Rivera, a known supporter of Duterte penned an open letter to Ranada, which can also be for the other DDS bloggers and warriors.

He started the letter by saying that the one who has a distorted concept of press freedom is Ranada herself.

Let me say this with much humility, the reason why there are so many so-called investigative journalists and press turn out to be assholes and self-proclaimed gift to mankind is because of your distorted concept of press freedom.

 He went on by saying that for people like Ranada, having no boundaries in their ability to tell the public about their opinion, a channel to do so, and legions of audience to accept the info, is the ultimate press freedom, which of course is not.

It just gives the bearer unlimited confidence that he can say what he wants because a lot of people are siding with him or her.

You speak of freedom of the press and speech like it is a limitless right. For people like you, press freedom is about having an unbridled right to tell the public your version of the truth and having the vehicle to say it. If you have both, you are happy, powerful and sadly, smug.

He gave Ranada three reasons.

First, because what powerful press people say becomes the truth and they are just abusing power.

Second, because press freedom is not like what Rappler is doing, withholding the truth or stirring it a bit and just revealing what they want to reveal in a time that is convenient for them. That is, for Bruce, manipulation and an abuse of confidence.

Third, because these people think that press freedom has no consequence to other people. What's worse is that these "press people" don't even have the humility to apologize when they say something wrong.
